Every life holds value
regardless of location, age, gender, or disability
For too long, the story of housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) has been written by others – well-meaning organizations and planners who believed they knew what was best. But at Villa de Vida, we're turning the page to tell a different story – one where adults with IDD are the authors of their own narratives.
In California, there are more than 625,000 individuals who have an intellectual or developmental disability. Of these, well over half are over 18 and over 60% of these are currently living with parents or other family members.
An estimated 1.3 billion people experience significant disability. This represents 16% of the world's population, or 1 in 6 of us.

Villa de Vida was founded to create a safe and supportive community where adults with disabilities can live their best lives, providing the support necessary to improve their independence.
Many adults struggle at the intersection of “villa” or home and “vida” or life.
Our two primary programs work together to provide pathways to successful lives for these adults. Our team also works closely with the County of San Diego Regional Center to ensure that significant synergy between the services and resources offered by both organizations.

Villa de Vida takes a revolutionary approach to community living for adults with IDD - instead of presuming to know what's best, we start with a simple yet powerful question: "What do YOU want?"
We’re in the early stages of building a second community and would love to know what you think? Send us a message and share your ideas, questions, concerns, and support. We would love to hear from you.
